Volunteers are the heart of Dream Catcher Stables.
Whether you’re leading a horse, side-walking beside a rider, feeding our herd before sunrise, or helping prepare for a lesson, every task helps create opportunities for individuals with disabilities to grow in confidence, independence, and joy.
No horse experience? That’s okay.
We’ll teach you what you need to know.
Find Your Place
Horse Leader
Lead and guide a horse during lessons, helping provide a safe, steady experience for riders while working alongside instructors and side walkers.
Tack Team
Prepare horses for lessons by fitting saddles, bridles, and other equipment, then help untack and organize gear after each session.
Horse Grooming
Help keep our horses healthy and comfortable by brushing their coats, removing dirt and dust, and giving them a little extra attention before and after lessons.
Horse Care
Help care for the horses and barn by feeding, cleaning stalls, refilling water, and assisting with routine horse care, including simple medications as directed.
Horse Enrichment Team
Create toys and activities, prepare treats, help clean tack, organize supplies, and provide extra attention to our horses outside of lesson times.
Facilities & Maintenance
Help keep Dream Catcher safe and welcoming by mowing, trimming, repairing fences and buildings, sweeping, cleaning, and assisting with general property maintenance, both indoors and outdoors.
Competition Team
Support Dream Catcher riders and horses at competitions by assisting with horse handling, side walking, equipment, and other event-day needs.
Fundraising & Events
Help organize community events, annual fundraisers, outreach, and special projects.
Photography & Media
Capture the moments that tell Dream Catcher's story through photos and social media.
Office & Administrative Support
Help keep Dream Catcher running smoothly by assisting with data entry, filing, answering emails, organizing paperwork, preparing mailings, and other administrative tasks.
Outreach & Community Engagement
Represent Dream Catcher at community events, share information about our programs, welcome visitors, and help build relationships with local businesses and organizations.
Education & Program Support
Prepare lesson materials, organize equipment, assist instructors before and after lessons, and help keep the program running smoothly.

Summer Looks a Little Different
During the hottest Texas months, rider safety comes first. When temperatures become unsafe for horses, riders, and volunteers, mounted lessons pause—but learning never does.
Summer is an opportunity for participants to strengthen their horsemanship knowledge and deepen their connection with the horses through hands-on learning and barn activities.
Instead of mounted lessons, participants continue developing essential skills, including:
- Grooming horses
- Daily horse care
- Tack identification and proper equipment use
- Horse breeds and characteristics
- Stable management and horsemanship fundamentals
Volunteers continue to play an essential role by helping care for the horses, assisting with educational activities, and keeping the barn running smoothly. Every summer session helps our riders stay engaged, strengthens their horsemanship skills, and demonstrates continued program participation—an important factor in securing grants that help sustain Dream Catcher Stables year-round.
And yes, we have a space to cool off too!

Volunteer Requirements
How old do I need to be?
Volunteers are generally accepted beginning at age 14. Younger volunteers may participate on a case-by-case basis with a parent. Volunteers 18 and older complete a background check as part of the application process.
Do I need horse experience?
No.
We provide orientation and training.
What should I wear?
Closed-toe shoes, jeans or appropriate outdoor clothing, and clothing suitable for the weather. Helmets are required for mounted activities.
What paperwork is required?
Before volunteering, new volunteers read the Policies and Procedures Manual and complete the required registration, liability release, emergency medical authorization, acknowledgment, and (if age 18+) background check forms.
